Guidelines for Pilots
(updated 3/21/08)

(Please read --  it's all good information to help you enjoy your flying here)

(1) Wait for ATC to finish speaking AND allow the aircraft they are speaking with to finish their read back of any instructions BEFORE calling ATC.

(2) Do ALL MIC CHECKS  on the  MULTICOM Frequency. ( 136.97 )

(3) Only press  CAPSLOCK  to key your Mic
(Note: SHIFT CAPSLOCK, which would cause you to Transmit on ALL Frequencies at the same time, has been disabled on the FS-MP server, except for use by certain Senior Controllers)

(4) If you are beyond the bounds of any airport in uncontrolled space, - announce what you are doing on:

FS-MP MULTICOM (136.97) ( Highest frequency your radio will tune to )

If you are at or are approaching an airport , use the appropriate TOWER frequency at that airport whether or not there is an assigned controller at that location.  Then, if a controller does happen to show up, transitions are smoother if you do this.

When communicating on an open frequency, just do it.  Do NOT expect a reply,  or give one unless you really need to avoid a collision.

Note: The FS-MP server incorporated realistic, real world LINE-OF-SIGHT radio range.
If you are too far away, or too low in altitude, your radio range may not be sufficient for you to be heard at extended ranges.

(5) To file a Flight Plan, use the online web flash application at http://fs-mp.com/fp.

(6) PILOTS: DO NOT exit FSX by just exiting the game with either the window's X button or Ctrl-C

( This causes freeze up to other players )

To Exit after your flight is done:

    1. IF you use TWO monitors, close down ALL open panels.
    2. Select END FLIGHT from the menu bar or the ESC key.
    3. Click LEAVE SESSION.
    4. Click SIGN OUT.
    5. Then you can close down FSX normally

Failing to follow this procedure causes random freezes for the controllers.  Please be courteous to the other members.

(7)  PILOTS: DO NOT connect through GAMESPY.   FS-MP no longer uses GAMESPY.

Connect directly to the server at the IP ADDRESS provided to you when you when you obtain "Certified Membership".

Username is your FS-MP FORUM Login name.
Password is your password for your FS-MP Login.

To connect to the server, you must obtain CERTIFICATION.

If you are not certified, the server will reject you, even if you have a Forum Login.

(8)  Please be sure to review and follow the Instructions in NOTAMS before EVERY flight.
        Current Notams
        Stickied Notams
for new members

(9) PLEASE   make sure your CALLSIGN is set correctly so that ATC can correctly identify you on their Radar.

(Please do this BEFORE joining the session)
It is MOST important so that ATC can see you correctly on their radar screen, and Outside Tower Views.

(a)  If you are a Small GA Aircraft
                (i)   select
(NONE)  for your AIRLINE CALL SIGN   <<<<< MOST important
(ii)   Enter a recognizable TAIL NUMBER    ie  N5544D

 (b) If you are a Commercial Airline,

             (i)   select (NONE)  for your AIRLINE CALL SIGN   <<<<< MOST important
                (ii)
ENTER THE "Airline Code " + :Flight Number"    as your TAIL NUMBER    ie  ORB1234

YES  - I know that (iii) seems wrong, but it is a work around for a FSX Bug, to allow your Correct ATC Callsign to be seen by everyone !!

(10) Remember you also have a TEXT chat window  (HIT ENTER KEY)
Use it !!!   It always works, even if your Mic does not,  but it is only of any use if everyone looks at it occasionally.

If you look in the TEXT Chat list of players, you will be able to Identify any CONTROLLERS by their "Controller Gamespy" ID

WARNING:  CLOSE the Text Chat window before trying to press CAPSLOCKS to talk.  Sometimes you cannot talk with the Text Chat window open (bug) but you can HEAR others with it open,  so you will not miss anything :)

(11) As a pilot, you MAY log into the TOWER, and VIEW the Radar. When you log in, you must use your NORMAL Forum ID (i.e. Do NOT make a Controller ID).

As a Pilot OBSERVER in the Tower, you may not (Under Any Circumstances) Transmit on any FSX Frequency while in the Tower.  If you want to talk to somebody, please use TeamSpeak.

If you want to be an ATC, you need to apply to become an Authorized FS-MP ATC Controller, and obtain basic training to handle each ATC position. ( Contact KenATC to start your ATC training)

(12)  You are recommended to set CRASH DETECTION to OFF.

We do NOT expect you to crash  -- if you do, YOU will know it.

But, if some other person crashes into you because THEY are making a mistake  (like being on the runway, just as you are on short Final)  -- you do not want THEIR Mistake to spoil YOUR flight.
