They are NOT intended for any REAL WORLD aviation use, and should NOT be used for Real World Aviation Navigation.

Even if you want to use your Flight Simulator to PRACTICE flying into OSHKOSH in preparation for a Real World Flight, PLEASE, do NOT use any of the information from this site for Real World Flying.. - Use Real World navigation information and refer to the official AirVenture Oshkosh website:-        http://www.airventure.org/

Note: Refer to your Official Aviation Sources for all Data when flying in the Real World, and DO NOT use any information from this website for Real World Aviation activities.

VERY BASICS - If you read nothing else -- at least read this !!

(1) You MUST have a working MICROPHONE to fly in this session -- NO EXCEPTIONS (Sorry)
(any Aircraft not responding to ATC will be ejected from the session)

(2) Look at the CONTROLLERS in the CHAT WINDOW ("/C") to see who is controlling and the Frequency they are on.

(3) DEFAULT MULTICOM Freq for ALL Radio Comms is 122.95

(Unless ATC is using a different Freq -- see CHAT WINDOW

(4) FREE OSHKOSH SCENERY !! -- some of the best FSX scenery available -- brings OSHKOSH to life.
(well worth downloading from this webpage and installing before you next fly here at OSHKOSH )

(5) FREE "Ripon-Fisk Arrival" FLIGHT PLAN for your FSX Gps ( makes the published arrival far easier )

(6) You can SPAWN at KOSH (AT A GATE PLEASE - Not on Runways), or Spawn at any of the listed Local airports surrounding Oshkosh (see list and maps below)

(7) Either "FLY the Pattern" at OSHKOSH, or "Fly INTO Oshkosh", from a surrounding Airport, using the "Ripon-Fisk Arrival".

(8) Please check and know your Aircraft's TAIL NUMBER -- and select (NONE) as your FLIGHT (most important for ATC)

If you want to get into the simulation at a deeper level, then you might care to read the additional Information below.

REMEMBER - NO Microphone = Cannot participate in this session -- Must have a Mic and communicate with ATC

Have fun -- but please do not spoil this session for other by acting in an irresponsible way --
if you do, expect to be EJECTED from the session....

The object of this FSX Flight Simulator Event.

To simulate flying into OSHKOSH in a busy traffic environment.

Planes: Prop & Turbo Prop ONLY ( Must be able to fly 15 mile Approach at 90 or 135 knots )

Depart from any nearby airport that is at least 50 miles from Oshkosh. (see 5 examples below)

All planes will arrive by the Ripon-Fisk VFR arrival routes as shown below.

All planes must fly to Ripon to join this arrival, and communicate with APPROACH on 127.00, within 20 miles of arriving at Ripon.

Single Engine Prop
Land RWY 09/27
Tower #1 : 118.50 MHz
Multi-Engine
Land RWY 36L/36R
Tower #2 : 126.60 MHz

If you land and park, you may later depart (subject to ATC approval) or you may choose to relocate (spawn) at an outlying airport, and do another full Fly-in to Oshkosh.

It's going to be busy -- keep you Radio Transmission VERY Short and to a Minimum.
NO "EMERGENCIES" please.

SIMPLIFIED FISK VFR Arrival to OSH -
Rwy 09 and 36

( For FSX Flight Simulation use only )

Approach to Ripon

• Proceed to Ripon, WI.
Recommended northbound altitudes are 2,000’ or 3,000’ MSL; southbound 2,500’ or 3,500’ MSL.

• Ensure your lights are on within 30 miles of Oshkosh.

• Plan your approach to arrive at Ripon at an arrival altitude.
Maintain 1,800’ MSL and 90 knots (or maximum cruise speed if less than 90 knots).
If unable, maintain 2,300’ MSL and 135 knots.

• Monitor approach (120.70) at least 20 miles from Ripon. VFR holding may be necessary due to congestion at Oshkosh. Fisk controllers will advise when holding is in progress. Ripon to Fisk

• If holding is not in progress, proceed northeast from Ripon directly over the railroad tracks toward Fisk. Maintain single file with other aircraft at your altitude.

• Listen for controller instructions as you approach Fisk. When holding is not needed at Fisk, the controller will assign your approach path beyond Fisk and your Oshkosh Tower frequency (118.50 or 126.60). This will normally occur in the immediate vicinity of Fisk. Do not proceed past Fisk without ATC authorization. When Holding is Needed: Holding Prior to Ripon

• If holding is in progress, depart Ripon westbound as shown below and enter the hold around Green Lake at 1,800’ or 2,300’ MSL.

• Fisk controllers will advise when to return to Ripon and continue inbound toward Fisk. When ATC ends holding at Green Lake, proceed in the hold to the eastern corner of Green Lake, then directly to Ripon and as specified in the “Ripon to Fisk” section at left.

• If the Green Lake holding pattern appears to be nearing capacity, stay clear and proceed no further. Instead, make left turns over a point on the ground and continue to hold until ATC advises you to proceed. Holding at Fisk

• If holding is needed at Fisk, the Rush Lake holding pattern will be used. Aircraft will proceed to Fisk and then turn left to heading 270º to the north shore of Rush Lake, continuing with left turns around the lake, then proceeding northeast over the railroad tracks to Fisk as depicted at right. Aircraft will fly single file at the specified approach speeds and altitudes.
Maintain ½ mile in-trail separation.

Inside the World's
Busiest Control Tower !

KOSH

The original tower at Wittman Field was designed and built in the 1960s, and was barely bigger than some of the buildings around it at AirVenture. 2007 marked the last year that the old tower was staffed by controllers during AirVenture.

The new tower is over twice the height of the old building and can be seen from throughout the AirVenture grounds.

The original tower was demolished in April 2009.
